John Cena’s iconic “You Can’t See Me” taunt has become one of wrestling’s most famous catchphrases — and it all started because of a dare from his little brother.

In a fun moment during a Do You Even Know Me? segment with Idris Elba, Cena finally revealed the truth about how his signature hand wave came to be. After Elba guessed that Cena created it because he “thought he was invisible,” the WWE legend corrected him with the real story.

“It was a dare from my little brother. He said, ‘You won’t do that on TV. That’s stupid. You look stupid.’ So I did it — and here I am looking stupid every day.”

With a grin, Cena punctuated the moment by delivering his trademark line — just like he’s done for decades: “You can’t see me.”

What started as a joke between brothers has become a full-blown pop culture catchphrase — one that’s followed Cena from WWE rings to Hollywood blockbusters. And whether he’s in a movie, meme, or a wrestling ring, you better believe fans are still waving their hands in front of their faces.

John Cena’s story proves that sometimes the most legendary moves come from the dumbest dares.
