Orange Cassidy’s signature “hands in pockets” wrestling style didn’t start as some carefully crafted character idea — it actually happened in the middle of a match.

The AEW star revealed how the now-iconic spot was born while speaking during a Monopoly Events show. According to Cassidy, the moment came years ago during a match with Marko Stunt, and it was more of a spontaneous reaction than a planned gimmick. Cassidy explained that the match took place in Beyond Wrestling in the northeastern United States, where Stunt’s antics during the bout pushed him to try something different in the ring.

“Why did I put my hands in my pockets? I was wrestling Marko Stunt in a promotion called Beyond Wrestling in the Northeast of America. He was being a little cocky punk and kept dancing around me. So I put my hands in my pockets and said, ‘Go ahead, hit me.’ And I’ve been doing it ever since for the past six years.”

What started as a simple moment in that match quickly stuck. Cassidy kept using the spot, and over time it became one of the most recognizable parts of his laid-back wrestling persona.

Today, the “hands in pockets” offense is one of Cassidy’s trademarks in AEW and regularly gets huge reactions whenever he slowly fires up his kicks or counters while barely looking like he’s trying. Cassidy’s explanation shows that one of wrestling’s most unique spots wasn’t some carefully planned gimmick — it just happened in the ring and took on a life of its own.

What do you think about Orange Cassidy’s hands-in-pockets spot — is it one of the most creative moves in wrestling today or just a fun gimmick that caught on? Let us know your thoughts.
