Omos faced off against Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 39 in what was definitely a battle between two titans. However, Omos has now revealed he was worried the match wasn’t even going to happen due to a back injury.

While speaking to Chris Van Vliet, Omos revealed what he went through leading up to his match against Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 39. After training one night, he got up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom.

As he bent over to lift the toilet seat, his back suddenly gave out. It happened again a moment later, and he was shocked because of how young he was. His wife noticed right away that something was wrong.

“I never said this before, but this is the first time I’m sharing it. After sundown, I went home and was training to get ready. I remember in the middle of the night, I got up to use the bathroom. I bent over the toilet seat, and my back gave out. I was like, ‘What the heck?’ I opened the toilet seat, and my back gave out again. I’m thinking, ‘What the hell, I’m young!’ I look at my wife, and she goes, ‘Oh no.'”

The following Monday, he went to get checked out and told the doctors he couldn’t feel his feet or toes. After running tests, they realized he had an issue with his back. That’s when he started to worry the injury might stop him from competing at WrestleMania 39.

“I got checked out that following Monday, and I told them, ‘Man, I can’t feel my feet, I can’t feel my toes.’ They did the testing where you push your toes down and up—and I couldn’t do it. They told me, ‘You might have something going on in your back.’ I was like, ‘Oh snap.’ I started thinking maybe this might prevent me from doing the match at WrestleMania 39 with Brock Lesnar.”

Even during the match itself, he had severe back pain and no feeling in his right foot. Leading up to the event, Omos did daily rehab at the Performance Center with help from the coaches. For that entire month, he couldn’t feel the bottom of his foot or his toes.

Eventually, MRIs showed he had two bulging discs. He received a cortisone shot, and the doctors decided that since he was young and it was his first back issue, surgery wasn’t necessary but he would need intense rehab. Omos committed fully to recovery, showing up at the Performance Center every day to prepare for the match.

“During the whole match at WrestleMania, I had back pain and no feeling in my right foot—none. I was doing rehab. Shoutout to the Performance Center coaches. That whole month leading to WrestleMania, I couldn’t feel my toes or the bottom of my feet.

I was really concerned the match wouldn’t happen. But when I got my MRIs done, they found I had two bulging discs. I got a cortisone shot, and the doctors said, ‘Hey, since you’re young and this is your first back issue, we don’t think you need surgery. But you’ll need really intense rehab.’ So I said cool. And for a full month, I was at the Performance Center every day, getting ready for WrestleMania.”

Brock Lesnar ultimately defeated Omos in a solid match at the Showcase of the Immortals and it remains one of Omos’ best bouts so far. Regardless, Omos is just happy the match didn’t get canceled and he powered through the injury and that’s all that matters to him now.
