Odyssey isn’t ducking the comparisons to WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry—in fact, he’s leaning into them with respect, swagger, and a clear message that he’s blazing his own trail.
During an interview on the Ring Ropes and Turnbuckles podcast, Odyssey addressed the obvious: fans and promoters constantly compare him to the World’s Strongest Man. He didn’t dodge the question.
“Yeah, I get it all the time. Shout out to Mark Henry. You know, that’s the OG—real world’s strongest man.”
While he acknowledged the similarities in size and presence, Odyssey stressed that his in-ring style is different by design.
“I try my hardest to make my style not like his. And some of it, like, I just can’t help it, right? Because I’m such a big guy. Certain things I’m going to do, but I also feel like I’m blessed with a lot of athleticism.”
He explained that he’s not trying to be anyone’s clone—and he’s got the footwork and agility to prove it.
“I could go in there and I could do the rolls. I could run the ropes. I could jump. Like, I could do some things.”
That said, Odyssey has no problem honoring the man he’s often compared to. He even throws in a familiar finisher from time to time.
“I throw it in here and there. I do it. I sprinkle it in every now and then.”
When asked if it bothers him to constantly be linked to Henry, Odyssey offered a quote that instantly stood out:
“I’m not mad being a Hall of Fame. Basically, like I wouldn’t be mad at that, you know.”
As for Henry’s legendary World’s Strongest Slam, Odyssey broke down why it’s not as brutal as it looks.
“It probably feels more comfortable doing that than it does other things. Because, like, when you go down and we go down together, it’s not as bad as you going down by yourself, if that makes sense.”
Now wrestling in Japan, Odyssey is turning heads for his unique blend of size, athleticism, and humble confidence. He’s not trying to be the next Mark Henry—he’s focused on being the first Odyssey.
What do you think about Odyssey’s take on big-man comparisons in wrestling? Should the industry stop lumping stars together based on appearance alone? Sound off in the comments.
