Oba Femi believes he’s cracked the code on what makes his character click in WWE — and it’s all about authenticity.
The reigning force in WWE NXT, Femi has become a multi-time champion and is widely expected to make the leap to the main roster soon. Known as “The Ruler,” he’s gained traction not just for his dominance in the ring, but for the distinct personality he brings to the table.
In a recent interview with BBC Sport, Femi opened up about how he developed his current persona and why staying real has always been the key.
“That’s just what comes with the territory of building a character. A lot of people go out there and pretend to be wrestlers and pretend to be, you know, something they’re not. But for me, it’s like, how much of a human being can I put into this one character? Let me have that natural cadence of a Nigerian man. Like, what does a Nigerian man who is like, you know, egotistical, poised and all that, you know, how does he fit into the wrestling meta? I think I’ve been able to figure that out.”
Femi’s unique blend of pride, poise, and power has made him stand out from the pack, and if this version of The Ruler is just the beginning, the main roster might be in for a major shift once he arrives.
