Oba Femi just made it crystal clear: that Royal Rumble moment with Brock Lesnar wasn’t just for fun—it was a test. And the results? Money.

During his February 11 appearance on the No Contest Wrestling podcast, Oba opened up for the first time about that intense staredown with The Beast Incarnate at the 2026 Men’s Royal Rumble. While WWE hasn’t locked in a WrestleMania 42 match between them, Oba knows the potential is real.

“There’s so much nuance to that moment. There’s one thing to have buzz online, but a lot of times buzz online doesn’t necessarily translate to what the casual crowd or the live crowd really wants. So at the beginning stages of the face-off, me and Brock knew… wait, there might be something here. They’re getting louder, they’re getting louder, it’s rumbling—we have something.”

The two stars sized each other up multiple times during the Rumble without throwing hands, creating a slow-burn tease that got fans talking. And according to Oba, that was no accident. Oba called it a “big money fight” and confirmed it was never meant to peak in the Rumble.

“In that moment, you have that mental agreement like, yes, we know we have something, so let’s not give away too much right now. I’m glad the IWC desire actually translated to the live crowd and what the casual fans want to see. That’s an amazing realization. We’re not going to blow it on just a Rumble interaction. There’s so much more that can happen there. So we’ll see down the line. We have something there. It’s a big money fight. We’re not going to blow it on just a Rumble interaction. There’s so much more that can happen there. So we’ll see down the line.

It was always designed to be a teaser. Just to see how people react to it. That’s what a lot of wrestling is… let’s plant this seed, let’s see what the crowd does. And based off what the crowd does, that’s going to be our next move.”

This comes after Wrestling Observer Radio’s Dave Meltzer reported on February 3 that the match between Brock Lesnar and Oba Femi is not locked in yet.

“That’s not 100 percent, by the way… it could happen. I’m not saying it’s not happening. I’m just saying that I was told this one’s not 100 percent, and that was the Lesnar and Oba Femi match,” Meltzer said.

WrestleMania 42 hits Allegiant Stadium on April 18–19 in Las Vegas. Roman Reigns has already picked CM Punk. Joe Hendry is the new Intercontinental Champion. Lesnar? He’s still a free agent—and Oba Femi is waiting.
