Nixon Newell just dropped a major update about her future — and it doesn’t sound like a WWE comeback as a wrestler is in the cards anymore.
After previously saying she hoped the door to WWE would still be open one day after her 2024 release, Newell has now taken a much more grounded tone. Posting on her Instagram story on April 7, she ran a Q&A — and when asked directly about a return, her answer shifted the conversation completely.
Instead of talking about unfinished business or proving herself, Newell made it clear she’s now looking at things from a different perspective: “I’d never say no but more so in a guest coach sense…my time is running out as a wrestler”
That’s a big change from where she stood before. Back in 2025, Newell made it clear she still had ambitions to return to WWE — but only on her own terms, after rebuilding herself outside the company and forcing them to come back for her. She also pushed back against claims she had “burned bridges,” insisting she was just being honest about decisions she didn’t agree with.
"Now I can go do what I want to do, prove everyone wrong in my way, you know, and live my career how I see fit. And then hopefully one day, the door’s still open and we can go back. A lot of people online be like, 'You've burned the bridges, you're saying all this stuff about them.'”
She doubled down at the time, even questioning WWE’s releases of top talent — making it clear she wasn’t afraid to speak her mind. And she didn’t hide her long-term goal either — she wanted to build herself back up to the point where WWE would have to come to her.
"I'm like, 'Well, no. I’m just saying what everyone’s thinking. When you release people like Dakota Kai and Shayna Baszler, like how do you release talent like that? That blows my mind.' Like I said, I hope the door’s still open. One day I’d like to go back… I want to go back when they need me. Yeah. And when they want me… if I ever go back to WWE, it’s to make them want me, make them need me."
But now, that tone has clearly shifted. Instead of talking about a full in-ring return, Newell is openly acknowledging the reality of her career timeline — and hinting that if she does reconnect with WWE, it may be outside the ring rather than inside it.
This changes the outlook entirely. What once sounded like a long-term comeback plan now feels more like a closing chapter — with Newell focusing on what’s realistically left in her wrestling career. If this is where things stand, a WWE return might still happen — just not in the way people originally expected.
