Nixon Newell’s second run in WWE didn’t end the way she’d have liked, as she was released back in November 2024. Before that, she was absent from television for a long time and now Newell has revealed that she pitched for multiple weeks but nothing really came of it.
While speaking to The Stardom Cast, Nixon Newell talked about her second time in WWE before she was let go. After coming back from injury, she worked with Liv Morgan, Natalya, and others. Even though she was still active, she had a feeling her time in the company was ending. She kept pitching ideas every single week, but none of them were accepted or used.
“So we got—when I got back, did all that stuff with—did some stuff with Liv, did some stuff with Nattie, all that kind of stuff—I kind of knew it was coming. I was pitching very frequently, multiple times a week, and nothing was coming to fruition.”
During that time, she wrestled often on Main Event, which she really enjoyed. The matches were at least eight minutes long, which gave her time to have fun and show her skills. She even got to be a heel a few times and wrestled people she liked working with, like Nikki Cross, Candice LeRae, and Dana Brooke.
However, she felt things changed when one of her ideas, playing a football hooligan character, actually made it through the creative process. It got approved by the higher-ups, and they were supposed to film it. Then, just two days before filming, the whole thing was canceled. That’s when she realized something was wrong and thought she might be getting released.
“I was wrestling on Main Event, which—you know—I loved wrestling on Main Event. You were guaranteed at least eight minutes, you were allowed to have fun. I loved wrestling on Main Event. I got to be a heel a couple times on Main Event against people that I loved wrestling, like Nikki Cross, like Candice LeRae. I got to be—you know—Dana Brooke was real fun to wrestle.
So, like, wrestling these people on Main Event, I was having a great time. But it was when I started pitching and things weren’t coming to fruition that I kind of knew something was up. And then I really knew it was coming when an idea I had pitched—to be a football hooligan as a gimmick—got through all the talking stages, got through the pitching stages, made it to the higher-ups, was scheduled to film some stuff, and then like two days before, it got canceled. And I went, ‘Something’s… something’s happening. And I think I’m going.'”
After that, she stopped wrestling. Some fans thought it was because she was sick. While she did have health issues at the time, she explained that she was still able to wrestle. She wasn’t taken off TV because of her illness; it was for other reasons.
“And then I didn’t wrestle. A lot of people think I wasn’t wrestling because I was ill at the time—which, I was ill—but I was still wrestling. I was able to wrestle while I was ill. It wasn’t like, you know, put me on the sidelines.”
This comes after Nixon Newell already called out WWE for making empty promises, among other things. Regardless, we’ll have to see how 2025 turns out for Nixon Newell as it’s clear she is now more than determined to prove all of her doubters wrong in a big way.
