Nikki Bella Reveals Where Things Stand with Ex-Fiancé John Cena

Nikki Bella has been back in the fold in WWE for the past month and obviously, she’s met her ex-fiance John Cena backstage. While fans wonder if there’s any awkwardness between them, Bella has now revealed where things stand with John Cena.

While speaking on Busted Open Radio, Bully Ray asked Nikki Bella if she’s run into John Cena backstage and whether that’s been awkward or easy for her. Nikki explained that it’s actually been great.

Nikki Bella said being backstage still feels like family, and every time she returns, it’s the same welcoming environment. Seeing familiar faces from the past has also been really nice.

When it comes to John Cena, Nikki Bella revealed that she has a lot of respect for him, his wife, and their relationship. She described John’s wife as super sweet and amazing, and mentioned she’s always at the shows.

Nikki Bella made it clear that everything has felt very comfortable and pleasant, which is exactly what she hoped for. There’s been nothing awkward or weird about it at all, and she’s really happy about that.

“It’s been so great! As you know, it’s a family back there and every time you go back it’s the same. Even seeing people from the past, it’s been really, really nice. I know we’re talking about John — I have so much respect for him and his wife and their relationship, and she is super sweet and amazing and she’s at all the shows. It’s been honestly very comfortable, very nice, and that’s great. That’s what you want from it… you don’t want things to be awkward and weird, and it’s not, so that’s really nice.”

Cena and Bella were together from 2012 to 2018. Cena famously proposed to her at WrestleMania 33 after their match against The Miz and Maryse, but they broke up a year later. Nikki later married Artem Chigvintsev in 2022, though they divorced in 2024. Meanwhile, Cena has been married to Shay Shariatzadeh since 2020.

Nikki Bella and John Cena have done a great job keeping things positive behind the scenes in WWE. Nikki’s kind words show that breakups don’t always have to be awkward and can actually end on good terms, making everything feel truly comfortable and fans are happy for her now.
