Nikki Bella’s injury status was mentioned on WWE RAW—but the real update just came directly from Nikki and Brie themselves, and it’s a lot more serious than a quick commentary note made it sound.

After Michael Cole revealed on RAW that Nikki is currently sidelined with an ankle injury while trying to make it back for WrestleMania 42, Nikki and Brie Bella broke down exactly what happened during an appearance on IRL with Angie Martinez on April 8, 2026.

Nikki didn’t sugarcoat how she’s feeling about the situation either. She made it clear right away that the injury has been frustrating—and that there’s still uncertainty about how serious it is.

“No, not at all. I’ve been super bummed out about it. So, as of now, it’s a sprained ankle. We don’t know if it’s a high sprain or something else, so I got an MRI. I’m waiting for the results.”

She then explained how the injury actually happened, revealing it went down almost immediately after their match started—and that she somehow pushed through the entire thing.

“What happened in our match on Friday—so we had our second tag match back together, and it happened right in the beginning of the match, and I finished the match. I can’t believe I finished the match—and I stressed out. My poor sister.”

Brie then jumped in and described the moment from her perspective, pointing out just how chaotic it was in real time—especially given how long she had been away from the ring.

“I mean, this is my second match back in eight years—so much anxiety—and her first tag. So she tags me, and as I’m about to come in, she goes, ‘Oh, I think I broke my ankle.’ And we’re on live television. I was like, ‘Huh? Do we need to call—?’”

Nikki admitted that in the moment, she genuinely believed the injury could be severe based on how it felt—especially given her past experience with injuries.

“Did I really think it was broken? I thought it possibly could be, because I’ve had a break before, and the rush that was going through my calf—and I couldn’t put weight on it—I was like, ‘Oh, I think I just broke my ankle.’”

She then went deeper into what was going through her head during the match, explaining why she chose to keep going despite the pain—and how the WrestleMania build factored into that decision.

“Just how it felt, I knew something was wrong. But I knew this was starting the story at WrestleMania, so in my head, I knew there were girls in the back waiting to run in. I knew there were a lot of women a part of this match, and I didn’t want to let anyone down.”

Nikki also revealed just how long she had to keep performing after the injury happened—and how difficult that was physically. She even described how the situation became noticeable to others in the ring, adding to the intensity of the moment.

“But I still had like 10–12 minutes to go, and I was like, ‘My goodness.’ So every time I would tag in, I was like, ‘No, it’s really broken, Brie—like, it’s broken.’ And the girl who we’re beating up is like, ‘Uh, put me in a hold.’ Like, she’s like, ‘Wait, is her ankle broken?’”

Finally, Nikki put into perspective just how painful the injury actually was—comparing it to one of the most serious injuries of her career.

“That was probably the worst pain I’ve ever felt—even over a broken neck. Putting someone in a double suplex—with your ankle—yeah, I had no choice but to put weight on it.”

This adds a lot more context to what was briefly mentioned on RAW. While WWE acknowledged Nikki’s injury on commentary, her own account makes it clear just how close things came to completely falling apart mid-match. With WrestleMania 42 over a week away and MRI results still pending, her status remains uncertain—but she’s clearly doing everything she can to make it back in time.

Do you think Nikki Bella will make it back in time for WrestleMania 42, or should WWE pivot away from the Bella Twins for the tag title match? Drop your thoughts and let me know.
