Nikki Bella is finally opening up about her sudden character shift — and she admits even she didn’t fully understand it.
After returning at the 2026 Royal Rumble and reuniting with Brie Bella, Nikki quickly found herself being cheered again, despite previously working as a heel in her feud with Stephanie Vaquer. Now, in a March 20, 2026 interview, she’s explaining what was really going on behind the scenes. Speaking to Esteban Ramirez, Nikki revealed that the reaction — and the direction she was given — caught her off guard immediately.
“Yeah, well, you know, the Monday Night Raw after, that’s why I was so confused, because I’m like, they have to be booing me. Like, I just had a massive heel turn.”
That confusion didn’t stop there. Nikki said she was actually instructed by WWE to tone things down and play things more neutral — something she made clear doesn’t fit her at all: “And it was hard because they told me to be neutral, which I’m not. I’m not a neutral person.” Instead of leaning into what she felt was working, Nikki had to adjust — even though she believed she had just found her rhythm as a heel.
“I was just like, I just want to be a heel. I was having a lot of fun. I felt like in that triple threat match, I finally got comfortable. I found my place.”
Nikki Bella also pointed to Brie’s return as a factor, explaining how her sister naturally draws a babyface reaction, which made the situation even more complicated.
“Then Brie is always the big babyface, so that was difficult — especially when I was even dissing my own favorite football team, because I just go straight into heel mode.”
That’s when Nikki made a decision. Instead of trying to force something that didn’t feel right, she decided she’s going to stay true to herself — regardless of how she’s labeled. And she made it clear what fans should expect moving forward.
“I’m a natural heel… if you’re going to label me a babyface, that’s fine, but I’m no longer delivering things at a neutral or babyface level because that’s not me. I’m going to deliver with everything I have, with everything I am. And that’s just what you’re going to get — you’re going to get Nikki Bella.”
What looked like a sudden character switch wasn’t as simple as it seemed — and now Nikki Bella is making it clear she’s done trying to fit into a box that doesn’t match who she is.
