Nigel McGuinness picked up a legitimate injury during the August 15 episode of AEW Collision, and right now AEW isn’t saying much beyond that.
Collision was taped on August 12 in Las Vegas, Nevada, but when the episode went live Saturday night, Tony Schiavone addressed McGuinness’ condition on the broadcast and revealed that something went wrong during his Continental Challenge Cup match against Katsuyori Shibata.
“Nigel suffered an injury, and that’s all they know.”
Schiavone added that AEW expects to have more information on Monday during the company’s AEW Selection Show.
McGuinness still defeated Shibata in the Continental Challenge Cup match, but the injury immediately puts a question mark over what comes next for him in the tournament. AEW did not reveal what kind of injury he suffered or how serious it might be.
For now, the bigger concern coming out of Collision is McGuinness. AEW is holding off on giving any real details until Monday, so his status remains up in the air.
