Nigel McGuinness had not competed in the ring since 2011, but that changed with his return at All In. He also wrestled again last month but hasn’t been in action since. Following his recent return, McGuinness has now addressed the possibility of wrestling again in the future.
Nigel McGuinness made his in-ring return after 13 years in a singles match during AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam in New York City. He faced his longtime rival, Bryan Danielson, and ended up tapping out to Danielson. Fans on social media have given mostly positive feedback about the match.
While speaking during Talk is Jericho, Nigel McGuinness was asked about his in-ring return and if he would compete again. McGuinness mentioned that while there’s always a possibility of wrestling again, his recent experience made him realize he’s more capable than he previously thought. He reflected on how, over time, he started believing others’ opinions that he wasn’t recognized enough for being a wrestler. Eventually, that negative voice became his own, until he recognized it was always self-doubt.
McGuinness feels grateful to have returned to the ring, and while he’s open to more opportunities, he’s at peace if it doesn’t happen. He expressed that he has found closure and is content, leaving the door open to see what the future holds.
“There’s always a chance, and certainly now that I’ve realized – I don’t want to say it’s not as difficult as I thought it was because it is obviously very difficult – but I think I didn’t give myself enough credit for being able to do it and I think I listened to too many people.
“I said it in a promo relatively recently, you hear that nobody knows you used to be a wrestler enough, and you start to believe it. And then one day, the voice telling you is your own. And then one day, and for me this took a long time, one day you learn it was your voice all alone and nobody else gives a s***. So, I’m at the stage now where I feel eternally blessed to have been able to get back in the ring.
“Certainly, I’m open to the possibility but if I don’t wrestle again that’s okay as well. As I said, I’ve had closure and we’ll see what happens, what dreams may come.”
Fans were very happy to see Nigel McGuinness finally face off against Bryan Danielson, a dream match for many. While it remains to be seen if McGuinness will compete in another match, he has shown that he can still perform at a high level.
