The frequent last-minute changes to WWE programming have become rare since former Chairman Vince McMahon’s departure, but pro wrestling veterans still remember the challenges vividly.
While speaking on Busted Open Radio, Nic Nemeth talked about his time in WWE and his frustrations dealing with last-minute script changes. Nemeth explained how wrestlers would often find themselves in uncertain situations, saying that it was common to hear people wondering about the night’s plans. Sometimes, an entire show would be rewritten at the last minute, which left talent scrambling to make the best of a difficult situation.
“You’d hear [people wondering] ‘What are we doing tonight?'” Nemeth recalled. “‘Well, I heard [the] entire show just got ripped in half at 5:45.'”
Nemeth likened this to how a “WWE Main Event” card would be assembled just to fill out the rest of the show. From there, it was up to the wrestlers to do whatever they could to create something special.
Nemeth recalled his feuds with Matt Cardona, then known as Zack Ryder, as an example. When they weren’t even featured on “Raw” some weeks, they would take matters into their own hands by creating promotional videos for Cardona’s YouTube channel.
“We couldn’t even make ‘Raw’ [some weeks], so we would make a video and put it on [Cardona’s] YouTube. I would use my selling [to make] it seem like there was more invested in the match,” he said, all to get fans to think that it is a good story.”
Nic Nemeth has also addressed returning to WWE as part of TNA’s collaboration. Regardless, we will have to wait and see if Nemeth will make his way back to WWE eventually, as he is well aware of how things are different now.
