NBCUniversal is warning that it may pull its channels from YouTube TV if a new carriage agreement isn’t reached by September 30. That means USA Network and NBC could go dark—directly impacting fans who watch WWE SmackDown through YouTube TV.
The standoff centers around Peacock, NBCUniversal’s streaming platform. YouTube TV is pushing for Peacock-exclusive content to be integrated directly into its interface, allowing subscribers to access everything from one place instead of jumping between apps. But NBCU isn’t playing ball.
Sources told Deadline that YouTube even offered NBCUniversal additional compensation to get it done—but the offer was rejected. NBCU reportedly felt the proposal wasn’t good enough. A YouTube spokesperson made their stance clear in a public statement:
“NBCUniversal asking us to pay more than what they charge consumers for the same content on Peacock, which would mean less flexibility and higher prices for our subscribers. We are committed to working with NBCUniversal to reach a fair deal for both sides ahead of our current agreement expiring on September 30. If their content is unavailable for an extended period of time, we’ll offer our subscribers a $10 credit.”
While WWE Premium Live Events now air exclusively on ESPN, SmackDown is still under the NBCUniversal umbrella—making this dispute a real threat for fans who rely on YouTube TV to catch their weekly wrestling fix.
Talks are still ongoing, but if no deal is reached soon, fans could be left without one of WWE’s most important weekly shows.
