MVP has been part of the AEW family since the September 25 edition of AEW Dynamite and it’s clear MVP has been really valuable to the company. However, all good things must come to an end and now MVP has revealed how he plans on retiring from wrestling.
While speaking to Yahoo Sports, MVP revealed how he wants to retire from wrestling. He said he has talked to Tony Khan, praising him as a great person to work for and someone he enjoys working with.
MVP explained that while he isn’t ready to retire yet, he hopes to eventually have a storyline where he faces a younger talent in a classic “if I lose, I’ll retire” match. His goal is to go out on his back and give a deserving wrestler the chance to say they retired him.
For now, MVP says there are many talented wrestlers he respects, but he hasn’t chosen anyone specific since he’s not ready to end his career just yet.
“I’ve talked to Tony Khan about this, and he’s a great guy to work for, and I enjoy the relationship that I’ve developed with him,” Porter says. “I told him that I’m not retired yet, but at some point I would like to have a feud with someone that I can have the good old-fashioned ‘if I lose, I’ll retire’ angle, so I can go out on my back and give some young, deserving and willing talent the opportunity to say, ‘I retired MVP.’
Right now, there are so many talented guys that I respect that I think are awesome, but I don’t have anybody [picked out], because, like I said, I’m not ready to retire yet.”
MVP previously stated that his in-ring career is coming to an end, so fans are eager to see him perform in other roles once he hangs up his pro wrestling boots. So we’ll have to see who will end up becoming MVP’s final opponent.
Who do you believe should be the one to retire MVP when the time finally comes? Which AEW star would benefit most from such a career-defining victory? Sound off in the comments.
