Mr. Kennedy made his unexpected return to TNA during the television tapings in Minneapolis. Since then, fans have been wondering whether he’ll become a full-time member of the TNA roster and now Kennedy has addressed his future in the company.
While speaking on his Mic Check podcast, Mr. Kennedy was asked about his future in TNA following his return during the tapings in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He explained that, as far as he and everyone else involved were concerned, the appearance was a one-off opportunity rather than the start of a full-time run.
According to him, TNA happened to be in town, and several of his friends like Nic Nemeth, Matt Hardy, Frankie Kazarian, and Tommy Dreamer, suggested the idea of including him since it was his hometown.
“I don’t know. I can’t say anything other than, as far as I’m concerned—and as far as anyone is concerned—it was a one-off. It was an opportunity. TNA was here in town, and a bunch of people, a bunch of friends of mine like Nic Nemeth, Matt Hardy, Frankie Kazarian, and Tommy Dreamer put in a word and said, ‘Hey, we’re in Ken’s town—maybe we should do something with him.’”
Ross Forman, who oversees TNA’s meet-and-greets, was also involved after organizing recent media events in the area. Around two weeks ago, TNA had asked the Hardys to visit Kennedy’s Academy for a free seminar, which helped open the door for further collaboration.
The entire situation came together quickly. Frankie Kazarian reached out with an idea he wanted to pitch, and that conversation took place just a week and a half before Kennedy’s return.
“Also, Ross Forman—he runs TNA’s meet-and-greets—we did something because TNA came here two weeks ago to do a bunch of media. They reached out to me and wanted the Hardys to come to the Academy to do a seminar—just offered that for free. So, seriously, all of it transpired in the last couple of weeks. Frankie reached out to me and said, ‘Hey, I have an idea—I’m gonna pitch it,’ and that was about a week and a half ago, at most.”
Kennedy’s return saw him have a promo segment with Frankie Kazarian and it eventually turned into a match where Kennedy teamed up with Steve Maclin to beat Kazarian and Jake Something.
Kennedy made it clear that his return wasn’t meant to be a full-time return. Even then, the return gave longtime TNA fans a big dose of nostalgia. Even if it was just a one-time thing, it showed how much of a mark he’s left on professional wrestling, but we’ll still have to see if he’ll eventually become a full-time TNA star again.
