After more than 30 years in the wrestling game, The Headbangers are calling it quits—and now we know exactly why.

During an interview on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Mosh confirmed that he and his longtime tag partner Thrasher will wrestle their final match on July 23, 2026. But this wasn’t a decision made overnight. According to Mosh, it came down to one simple truth: wrestling just isn’t fun like it used to be.

“We are having our last in-ring match,” Mosh said. “I’m 54 now… and people ask me, ‘How much longer are you going to do it?’ My answer has always been, as long as I feel like I’m contributing and I’m having fun… but the last couple times maybe haven’t been as much fun.”

It wasn’t about a major injury. Mosh said he still moves well and feels capable in the ring. But a close call during a belly-to-back suplex at a recent indie show made him think twice—especially with his current role as a guest coach at the WWE Performance Center.

“Now, if I get injured, it’s going to take me longer to recover,” he explained. “I could miss out on other opportunities… it’s a fun hobby, and the fun’s kind of coming down, and I don’t want to hurt a possibility of not being able to go back to the PC.”

That mix of diminishing enjoyment and real-world responsibilities made it clear the time had come. Add in the grind of travel—early flights, late returns, and chaotic weekends—and Mosh knew something had to give.

“We’re up at five o’clock in the morning, sitting at the airport waiting to fly out at six o’clock, and we’re like, why are we doing this?” he said. “Then we get to the show… we’re in the locker room… and then we get in the ring and go, ‘Oh, this is why we’re doing it.’ But then we get back to the hotel at 2am, have to get up at five… and I go, why are we doing this? I think some of the fun’s going away.”

For Mosh, it’s not about going out with a bang—it’s about going out before the spark disappears completely.

The Headbangers were never subtle, but this exit is quiet and honest. No farewell tour, no dragged-out storyline—just a final match and a decision rooted in self-awareness.
