MJF is a true student of the game and loves professional wrestling more than anything. That is precisely why it comes as no surprise that he has called out wrestlers from WWE or AEW who claim they do not watch the other company’s product.
While speaking to Sports Illustrated, MJF calls out wrestlers who don’t actively watch and study professional wrestling. He questions whether someone can truly call themselves a student of the game or one of the best in the industry if they aren’t keeping up with what’s happening.
The Salt of the Earth believes that if a WWE star claims they don’t watch AEW, they are either lying or they don’t care enough about the business to study it. He states that many WWE wrestlers will be watching AEW Revolution because real professional wrestlers and athletes stay informed about their sport. According to MJF, not keeping up with the industry shows a lack of seriousness about the profession and he simply pities such wrestlers.
“If you are in the world of professional wrestling, if you are a top guy, and you don’t watch or consume as much professional wrestling as possible, can you call yourself a student of the game? Can you say you’re putting your best foot forward? Can you claim to be one of the best in the sport? In my opinion, no, you absolutely cannot.
So if you were to ask a WWE star, ‘Have you been watching AEW?’ and they say no, one of two things is happening. One: they are lying through their f**king teeth. Or two: they don’t care enough about this industry to study what’s going on in it.
I can assure you there will be plenty of WWE wrestlers watching Revolution because if you are a real professional wrestler—scratch that, if you’re a real athlete—and you aren’t in the loop or aware of what’s happening in your sport, I pity you. I think you just do not take your job seriously, and I take umbrage with that.”
As for MJF’s current plans, he is set to face off against Adam Page at the Revolution pay-per-view this week and it’s expected to be a solid one. In the meantime, MJF is happy about the fact he chose to re-sign with AEW since he got a massive payday.
Should top wrestlers actively watch both WWE and AEW to stay informed? Or is it understandable for some to focus solely on their own company? Share your thoughts!
