MJF isn’t usually the sentimental type, but even the self-proclaimed Salt of the Earth had to show some love when it came to John Cena.
During an interview on Unlikely with Adrian Hernandez, the former AEW World Champion reflected on his recent interaction with Cena at the The Iron Claw red carpet event. The moment between the two megastars sparked interest online, but MJF kept the details of their brief exchange under wraps—out of respect.
“Talk about what I suppose stays between us. But what I will say is, again, another guy that is as advertised—a hardworking, intelligent, freaking just good human being. Just… he’s just a great human being.”
It’s not often that MJF lets his guard down, but he made it clear that Cena has been a consistent role model in his life and career.
“And every time I’ve talked to him, I’ve come away from it feeling like I either A) learned something, or B) learned something in the sense of, like, this is what I should aspire to be like—inside the ring, outside of the ring.”
Then MJF dropped the real surprise—revealing just how much of a fan he was growing up.
“I mean, this dude was a fathead on my wall growing up. You know, Cena was my first love… and then it was Punk, right? So it’s really cool getting to talk to him, for sure.”
For someone who rarely shows vulnerability, MJF’s respect for Cena paints a different picture—one of a young fan who became a superstar but never forgot who helped inspire the journey.
Could this be a glimpse into a future crossover between MJF and Cena, or was this just a passing moment of admiration? Drop your take in the comments and let us know what you think.
