MJF just told the full story of how his relationship with Alicia Atout began—and it started with a risky DM that paid off.
Speaking to Chris Van Vliet on February 11, 2026, the AEW World Champion reflected on how his now-wife first entered his life. Their earliest connection? A wrestling interview in Toronto but they were never single at the same time for a while.
“That first interview I did with her in Toronto was the very first time I met her. We always stayed in touch. I always thought she was cool, but I never went there. I would be dating someone and she’d be single, and sometimes I thought she was flirting with me. Then I was single and she was dating someone. It just never lined up—until it did. We were both single at the same time.”
When the timing was finally right, MJF decided to reach out—only to get ignored. Instead of giving up, he doubled down and clarified his intentions with a second message and that’s when they finally went on their first date.
“I DM’d her and I remember saying, ‘Hey, if you’re ever in New York, let me know.’ I didn’t get a response, so now I’m like, ‘Does she think I’m just trying to smash?’ Which is a fair assumption because I’m me.
So I did what you’re not supposed to do—I double messaged. I doubled down and wrote, ‘Hey, I’m not just trying to sleep with you. I genuinely would like to take you on a date.’ Then she responded right away and said, ‘Oh okay, I thought you were just being a creep. Yeah, that works.’ And that’s when we had our first date.”
The two began dating in 2023 and made things public that November. By September 2025, they were officially married. From mutual flirting to marriage, the couple’s story proves that a little persistence—and one honest DM—can change everything.
What do you think of MJF’s love story? Would you have sent that second message—or played it safe? Drop your thoughts in the comments and let us know.
