MJF is pulling back the curtain on how far he goes to craft his promos — and it’s a lot more calculated than it might seem.

MJF broke down his promo process while speaking on the Games With Names podcast on March 31, 2026, revealing just how seriously he treats talking in wrestling. When the conversation started, MJF was asked directly about how important mic skills are in the business, and he made it clear that being able to talk isn’t optional — it’s essential: “Very important.”

From there, he was pressed on how he actually creates the kind of promos that stand out, and MJF explained that his process involves isolating himself for hours and deliberately coming up with the harshest things he can say about his opponents.

“Oh, well, I’m mentally unwell. So what I’ll do is I’ll sit down in my house for hours on end thinking of horrible things to say to my opponents.”

He then revealed that this isn’t just random thinking — he actively documents everything, keeping a running collection of insults in his phone that he can pull from whenever needed: “Oh God, my Notes app is a cornucopia of just ruthlessly unhinged, mean things to say.”

To show just how far he’s willing to go, MJF shared one of the actual insults he has saved, making it clear that nothing is off-limits when it comes to getting a reaction.

“Here’s one that’s on the top under ‘funny insults’: ‘You want a comeback? If you want my comeback, you’ll have to go scrape it off your mother’s teeth.’”

MJF also explained that a lot of his material is highly specific, with entire sections in his notes dedicated to individual wrestlers — meaning many of his lines are crafted to hit very personal targets.

“Some of these are wrestler-specific, so you’re not going to get the same amount of pop because people might not know… I literally have a wrestler’s name, and then under that wrestler is like 70 brutal barbs that are ultra-specific about them.”

He then addressed what happens after those promos land, noting that while things may seem fine publicly, he’s often told backstage that his words have crossed a line. But if there’s any expectation that he tones it down after that, MJF made it clear that’s not happening — and that he fully leans into the reaction instead.

“And then they go to the back and pretend everything’s fine. But later on, my boss will walk up to me and be like, ‘Hey, you kind of hurt that guy’s feelings.’ And I’m like, ‘Hey, I kind of don’t give a s***.’ And then it gets worse. So… that’s wrestling.”

Bottom line — this isn’t trash talk off the cuff. It’s calculated, it’s personal, and it’s exactly why the AEW World Champion stands out every time he grabs a microphone.

Do you think MJF’s approach to promos is what makes him one of the best talkers in wrestling today, or does it go too far? Drop your thoughts and let us know.
