MJF’s Happy Gilmore 2 appearance had fans talking—especially his wild fight scene with Eminem—but it turns out the AEW star wasn’t originally cast as Adam Sandler’s son.
While speaking to Screen Crush, MJF was asked what role he first auditioned for in the Netflix sequel. The Salt of the Earth explained that his initial role had nothing to do with the Happy Gilmore family dynamic.
“One of the Maxi golfers,” MJF said, referring to a side plot in the film. “[In the film, Benny Safdie’s character creates a rival golf league from the main pro tour called Maxi Golf.]”
Eventually, the casting changed and MJF landed the high-profile role of Happy’s son. His chaotic fight with Eminem was one of the film’s standout moments, with fans surprised to see both stars throw hands in the comedy sequel.
On top of his Hollywood turn, MJF earned backstage praise in AEW for managing his schedule so well during filming. Balancing movie shoots and wrestling appearances isn’t easy—but he made it work.
With Happy Gilmore 2 already a viral hit, the big question now is whether MJF and Adam Sandler will team up again. Given MJF’s charisma on screen, fans would certainly love to see more.
