MJF isn’t just making waves in AEW—he’s officially getting recognition from the mainstream film world. The former AEW World Champion has been named one of the Associated Press’ breakout actors to watch this summer, thanks to his role in Happy Gilmore 2, which hits Netflix on July 25.

In a newly released AP spotlight, MJF was listed alongside Ethan Cutkosky, Conor Sherry, and Philip Schneider, who all play Happy Gilmore’s sons in the upcoming sequel. The article praised their chemistry on set and labeled the group as a scene-stealing element of the film.

While MJF, real name Maxwell Jacob Friedman, is known for being one of the best talkers in pro wrestling, his transition to acting is quickly gaining attention. His performance in Happy Gilmore 2 is already turning heads before the film’s release, and AP’s inclusion of his name among the summer’s breakout talent only adds fuel to the fire.

“I looked like a goon so they just assumed I’d be fine on the rink,” MJF joked about his casting. But behind the sarcasm, it’s clear he made an impact on set—and now, outside of wrestling, he’s being recognized as a name to watch in Hollywood.

MJF also has two more films on the way, Stranglehold and The Floaters, both in postproduction. With momentum building, he may be the next wrestler to fully cross over into the world of film.

Do you think MJF has what it takes to become a full-time star in Hollywood? Or should he stay focused on AEW? Please share your thoughts and feedback in the comment section below.
