MJF is back on top — this time in Mexico.
The AEW star captured the CMLL Light Heavyweight Championship at the CMLL Viernes Espectacular event on August 1, 2025, inside the legendary Arena Mexico in Mexico City, ending Averno’s dominant year-long run with the gold.
The finish came when MJF landed a low blow out of the referee’s sight before locking in a single-leg Boston Crab, forcing the champion to tap out. With that, the self-proclaimed “American Hero” walked away with the title.
The celebration didn’t last long. Zandokan Jr. stepped into the ring after the match and issued a challenge, which MJF immediately accepted. The two will clash for the title at CMLL’s upcoming special event on August 15, 2025.
MJF made his feelings clear after the show, posting on X: “The CMLL WORLD CHAMPION. And after I’m through with Mascot Mark, your next 2x AEW WORLD CHAMPION!!!!!!!!”
Now holding CMLL gold, MJF has his eyes on adding the AEW World Championship to his collection. The question is—can he pull off becoming a double champion?
