Maxwell Jacob Friedman isn’t known for humility, and during a recent interview he made it clear that he believes his reign as AEW World Champion has helped push the company to another level.
While appearing on TMZ’s Inside the Ring, MJF discussed the current momentum of All Elite Wrestling and argued that the company’s business has been thriving since he captured the championship. According to MJF, AEW has been improving across several key areas since he became the face of the promotion.
“I’m the biggest star the company’s got. Right now, since I’ve won the championship, we are up in every single metric — ticket sales, pay-per-view buys, ratings. We’re absolutely killing it right now.”
Even while taking credit for the company’s success, MJF also acknowledged the strength of the roster surrounding him. He pointed out that AEW has a deep lineup of wrestlers chasing the championship.
“The other reason why our show is doing so incredibly right now is because of the cast of characters that are trying to take this championship away from me. You have Hangman, you have Kenny Omega, you have Swerve Strickland, you have Samoa Joe, you have Andrade El Idolo, you have Kyle Fletcher, you have Bandido, you have Darby Allin, you have Brody King, you have Kevin Knight, you have Speedball Mike Bailey.”
MJF added that the roster continues to grow stronger as new talent arrives in the company.
“The list goes on and on. And the scary part is it’s growing. Gabe Kidd, David Finlay just came in. He’s a really top tier talent.”
He went on to argue that the depth of AEW’s locker room is the main reason the promotion’s shows continue to stand out in the wrestling world.
“And that’s what’s so cool about All Elite Wrestling. I think the reason why we’re catching fire right now and everybody’s unanimously agreeing — facts, not feelings — we are putting on the best professional wrestling shows in the sport today.”
MJF finished the thought by doubling down on his belief that AEW currently has the strongest group of performers in the industry.
“And it’s because we have the best professional wrestlers in the sport today, bar none.”
Do you agree with MJF that AEW currently has the best roster in professional wrestling, or do you think another promotion holds that spot right now? Let us know your thoughts and join the conversation in the comments.
