MJF is never one to stay silent—especially when legends throw shade. After Bret Hart claimed he didn’t know who MJF was during an interview last November, many fans were left scratching their heads considering the two shared a segment together at AEW’s Double or Nothing in 2019. Now, MJF is clapping back—and he’s dragging Bill Goldberg into it, too.
During an interview with Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp, MJF unleashed a wild response, chalking the situation up to Hart’s age and long-standing head trauma from his infamous Goldberg injury.
“Look, the guy had a seizure. He got kicked in the fucking head. He’s old as f*ck. Do I think it’s Bill Goldberg’s fault? Everything’s Bill Goldberg’s fault.”
MJF then gave his version of the infamous 2019 backstage exchange, one that adds an extra layer of irony to Hart’s claim.
“Now granted, Bret, much like me, is a troll. Do I think he actually doesn’t know who I am? Of course he f*cking knows who I am. But one of my favorite things about that day is after I absolutely roasted him and ripped him a new asshole, he goes walking up the stage to get to the back. He fell—because of Bill Goldberg, not because of Bret, because of Bill.”
And in true MJF fashion, the story ended with a sharp twist of respect.
“Then I try to search and find him to make sure he’s okay. I do. I say, ‘Are you okay, sir?’ and he looks at me and he goes, ‘Your promo.’ I go, ‘Yeah?’ He goes, ‘You’re real good.’ I go, ‘Yeah,’ and he goes, ‘You remind me of a guy I really f*cking hated back in the day.’ I think anyone that’s watching this could put two and two together. I’ll give you a hint—it’s not Bill Goldberg.”
The AEW star also pushed back on Bret Hart’s recent criticism of Sheamus’ punches, a comment that sparked some debate online. Despite a history of verbal jabs with Sheamus on Twitter, MJF didn’t hesitate to give credit where it’s due.
“Look, if anyone who knows me and my Twitter knows that me and Sheamus actually had a tête-à-tête. Now, did I f*cking also verbally assassinate him? Yes, that’s what I do. But I’m not gonna sit here and pretend that Sheamus doesn’t have great punches. That’s what he’s known for.”
As for Bret Hart’s GOAT status? MJF gave a diplomatic, but firm response.
“Wrestling is all flavor of ice cream. Like, is Bret Hart incredible? Yes. Is he my personal, in my opinion, the greatest of all time? In my personal opinion, no. But that doesn’t mean he’s not f*cking good at wrestling.”
MJF once again proves he’s the king of controversy—ready to roast legends, but still smart enough to drop truth bombs with a smile.
