MJF isn’t done talking about Adam Cole—and the Salt of the Earth is making it clear who he thinks ruined one of AEW’s biggest storylines.
During his February 5, 2026 appearance on Mostly Sports with Mark Titus and Brandon Walker, the AEW World Champion reflected on his rollercoaster run with Cole, a partnership that started as fan-favorite magic and ended in betrayal. And according to MJF, it could’ve been just as big as his infamous feud with CM Punk—if not for one massive setback as he blamed Adam Cole for derailing their feud.
“The Adam Cole thing was on an even playing field with the CM Punk situation, but then it all went to s*** because Adam Cole got injured and betrayed me like a piece of s***.”
MJF is referring to Cole’s devastating ankle injury at AEW Grand Slam 2023, which sidelined him and blew up months of creative momentum. At the time, MJF and Cole were one of AEW’s hottest duos, having won the ROH World Tag Team Titles and delivered incredible segments that were a solid mix of comedy, competition, and friendship.
But that all ended at AEW World’s End 2023, when Cole turned on MJF and revealed himself as the leader of the Undisputed Kingdom, alongside Roderick Strong, Matt Taven, Mike Bennett, and Wardlow. The betrayal sent MJF spiraling into a hiatus—only to return at Double or Nothing 2024 with a surprise attack on Cole.
The feud reignited throughout 2024, culminating in MJF defeating Cole at World’s End 2024 to reclaim the Dynamite Diamond Ring. Still, MJF believes the original vision for their story was far bigger—something on par with his explosive war with CM Punk—and it never got the payoff it deserved because of Cole’s injury and heel turn.
MJF’s comments come at a time when he’s reclaiming his edge and speaking more freely about what went wrong behind the curtain. And if anyone thought his grudge against Cole was over, MJF’s latest words say otherwise.
Do you think Adam Cole’s injury really ruined one of AEW’s biggest storylines—or did the feud still deliver? Share your take in the comments below.
