John Cena may be retiring tonight at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event, but The Miz isn’t letting him leave without one last shot and he used a viral theme to make it happen.
The A-Lister took to his Instagram and uploaded a video, as he made it clear he’s not impressed with Cena’s accolades—dropping a not-so-subtle jab about who the real GOAT might be. The video, set to the viral “Turn the Lights Off” trend featuring Jon Hamm, is already getting attention for its timing and message.
The Miz pointed out how he is a two-time Grand Slam Champion in WWE, while Cena is retiring as just a one-time Grand Slam Champion. Inside the video, Miz leaned in even harder:
“When you’re a 2-time Grand Slam Champion and Cena is retiring with just 1. If the “Greatest of all time” only has 1 and I have 2, does that make me…”
He never finishes the sentence. Instead, the clip cuts to the now-iconic footage of Jon Hamm dancing in a nightclub, eyes closed, vibing to DJ Kato and Jon Nørgaard’s 2010 track “Turn the Lights Off.”
This comes shortly after Miz voiced his frustration in a SI Media interview, saying he pushed hard to be Cena’s final opponent but never got the match. He even blamed his own fanbase for the match not happening.
“I was the first person—literally the first person—to put my name in the hat and go, ‘I want to go up against John Cena.’ And it never came to fruition. That’s all I needed. Well, I guess my fans don’t do that. And so, I blame them.”
Whether it was sarcasm or a serious shot at the 17-time World Champion, Miz’s video is the latest in a long history of shots fired between the two—and he’s not letting Cena’s exit go without a reminder of his own accomplishments.
