WWE fans were sent into a frenzy over the weekend after sharp-eyed followers noticed something strange: The Miz had apparently unfollowed WWE on social media. With recent roster cuts hitting names like R-Truth and Carlito, many jumped to conclusions that The Miz could be next. But according to a new report, that may not be the case at all.
Fightful Select addressed the rumors directly, reporting: “Though there has been much speculation about The Miz’s status after people noticed him ‘unfollowing WWE,’ we have not been told whatsoever that he’s been informed of his contract not being renewed.”
So while the timing of his social media move is suspicious—especially following the release of veteran names—there’s no confirmation that The Miz is out. Still, fans are asking why someone who’s been loyal to the brand for nearly two decades would make such a quiet digital statement.
Meanwhile, WWE’s recent cuts weren’t random. On the June 2 episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer explained that WWE is targeting “older, less used talent” as part of internal restructuring. Even R-Truth and Carlito, both of whom had recent TV appearances, were seen as non-essential.
“R-Truth, not so much. I mean, he’s been around for a long time… he’s just in there for quick cameos,” Meltzer said. On Carlito’s cut, he added: “I was surprised with Carlito in the sense that he’s in the middle of, you know, the Judgment Day thing… they have regular TV time.”
The message is clear—WWE is trimming the fat, and age is playing a big role in those decisions. “Older is worse than younger, obviously,” Meltzer stated, citing the influx of new talent from AEW and NXT.
That context makes The Miz’s social media move even more eyebrow-raising. He’s 44 years old, has been with WWE since 2004, and while he’s often used for media and hosting, his in-ring presence has cooled off in recent months. Is he simply trolling—or sending a message?
Whatever the case may be, fans are watching closely.
UPDATE: Some of our readers pointed out that The Miz is still following WWE on Twitter. We will continue to monitor the situation.
