John Cena is officially facing AJ Styles at WWE Crown Jewel—but not everyone is thrilled about it. In fact, The Miz just made it very clear he feels completely overlooked.
Cena took to social media to challenge Styles, claiming he doesn’t handpick opponents but listens to the fans. AJ Styles quickly accepted, and Triple H sealed the deal within hours, confirming the bout for October 11 in Perth, Australia. But during an appearance on Unlikely with Adrian Hernandez, The Miz made sure his voice was heard—and he didn’t hold back. When asked about the Cena vs Styles match, Miz admitted the announcement hit a nerve:
“I’ll tell you what I told you backstage. I was happy for AJ Styles, but very angry that it’s AJ Styles versus John Cena and not John Cena versus The Miz.”
He then reminded fans that his history with Cena runs deep—most notably defeating him in the main event of WrestleMania 27.
“I beat the guy at WrestleMania in the main event for the WWE Championship. One of the only people ever to do something like that… and I can’t get a match with John Cena.”
According to Miz, he’s been trying to secure a final match with Cena since the retirement tour kicked off, saying:
“I’ve been talking about this since the retirement tour started. I was the first person to go, ‘Sign me up.’ I’m putting my name in the hat.”
With Cena reportedly only having five dates left, Miz feels the window is rapidly closing.
“Maybe not ever. Because there’s only five left. There’s only five more dates.”
He even confronts Cena about the countdown every time they cross paths backstage:
“Every time I see John Cena backstage, I’m like, ‘Five more. Four more. Three more.’ That’s all we got.”
But it’s not just about himself. Miz believes future stars are missing a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to step in the ring with Cena.
“I have the rich history with John Cena. I do. I’ve been there from the beginning. And I don’t get a match. I don’t get a match. So yeah, I’m pretty upset. Like, that’s my heart talking… And you know what else is upsetting? That the youth will not get to experience a John Cena match. They won’t get to be in the ring with him. They just won’t.”
“But selfishly, I want that match. I don’t want to give it to… I don’t know who else is ever— I don’t know the five dates left. I don’t know who’s getting the match. A lot of people talking Dom. Dom’s a big name, a buzzword. Other than that, I’m not sure. I don’t know. Other than this guy, right?”
Triple H may have given fans Cena vs Styles, but The Miz wants the WWE Universe to remember he beat Cena at WrestleMania—and he’s still waiting for that final round.
