Steve Maclin’s scary moment at TNA Sacrifice had fans worried, and now Mike Santana has finally spoken out about what happened in the ring that night.
Maclin’s TNA World Title match against Santana was stopped suddenly after Maclin took a hard superkick that left him unable to continue. Medical staff rushed to the ring, and the match was called off on the spot. Later reports confirmed Maclin was taken to the hospital for testing but cleared and not diagnosed with a concussion, which came as a huge relief after how serious it looked.
Santana took to Twitter to address the situation, revealing how he prepares before every match and how much the moment shook him once things went wrong.
*“Needed some time to myself before speaking on this…
Every time I’m getting ready to head out for a match, I always find a corner and take a moment to myself.
I kneel and pray to God to protect me and my opponent. To watch over us as we head out to give the fans an escape and something worth what they pay their hard earned money for.”*
Santana made it clear that accidents like this are always a risk in wrestling, no matter how prepared the wrestlers are before stepping into the ring.
“But as we all know, freak accidents happen that are sometimes out of our control and in the moment. That’s the unfortunate reality of what we do. All we can do is learn from it and take preventative measures moving forward, so that we can avoid making the same mistakes.”
He also gave credit to TNA and referee Alice Lane, saying her fast reaction played a huge role in how the situation was handled once Maclin went down.
“I will say, I’m truly proud of how TNA handled the situation. And even more proud of referee Alice Lane. Her elite professionalism and quick thinking saved us. We were truly blessed to have had her out there with us.”
Santana ended his message by showing respect to Maclin and making it clear that his opponent’s health mattered more than anything else.
*“I’m glad that Steve is safe and doing well. He’s one of the toughest guys I know and someone I’ve considered a close friend for a long time. At the end of the day, our health and well-being come first and we showed exactly that.
Thank you everyone. 🙏🏽🙏🏽”*
Maclin already told fans he’s doing better, and Santana’s message adds more clarity about how serious the moment felt inside the ring. While Maclin avoided a concussion diagnosis, fans are still waiting to see when he’ll be cleared to return to action.
