‘Speedball’ Mike Bailey is one of the biggest names in the industry right now thanks to his excellent in-ring skills. After parting ways with TNA Wrestling last year in November, he finally made his AEW debut this week and now he has confirmed the reason for his delayed debut.
“Speedball” Mike Bailey made his AEW debut on Dynamite this week, securing a victory over The Beast Mortos in the AEW International Title Eliminator Tournament. Instead of using his usual finisher, The Ultimate Weapon, he opted for a tornado kick to finish the match.
While speaking to SP3 of Sports Illustrated, Bailey revealed that he had been working on this new move while spending time in Canada between December and March, where he was renewing his visa. During that period, he trained extensively at the IWS dojo in Montreal, focusing on perfecting the kick. He wanted a faster and more direct finisher that didn’t require a complex setup like his previous move.
“I’ve thought about it a lot, I’ve been practicing that move. I felt I needed something quicker, something more direct, something that requires a less specific setup than ‘The Ultimate Weapon’. And during the whole time I was off, I was in Canada getting my visa renewed between December and March and I spent a lot of time there several hours every week in the IWS dojo, which is a wrestling school in Montreal training and teaching there, and I’ve been working on that kick extremely hard every chance I get for the last three months.”
Mike Bailey has now officially named this new finisher Time Adventure, inspired by the final episode of the animated series Adventure Time, which he considers one of the greatest TV shows of all time.
“And I call it, name reveal right here, ‘Time Adventure.’ Which is a reference to the final episode of what is one of the greatest TV shows of all time, ‘Adventure Time.'”
After winning his AEW debut, Mike Bailey is now just one victory away from earning a rematch for the AEW International Championship. He will compete against Orange Cassidy and the winner of the other tournament matches in a four-way match. The winner of that match will go on to face Kenny Omega for the title at AEW Dynasty. Therefore, it remains to be seen whether Mike Bailey will get a shot at Kenny Omega next month.
