Michael Hayes keeps himself busy as a crucial member of the WWE Creative team but it appears he’s currently away from his duties following surgery.
While speaking on My Mom’s Basement with Robbie Fox, CM Punk was asked about the behind-the-scenes people who don’t always get credit. The Second City Saint mentioned Michael Hayes, revealing that Hayes is currently off the road because he’s recovering from knee surgery, and said that everyone feels his absence.
Punk explained that there are a lot of people who help make WWE shows run smoothly, and losing even one person can make a difference. Even though they can still text Hayes, Punk said not having him there in person really makes an impact.
“I feel like there’s so many people (that contribute to making the show go smoothly at WWE) … There’s so many chefs in the kitchen, in a good way, that if you took one person out — I mean, and it kind of happens on a weekly basis. Michael Hayes just went down, got a knee surgery so, Freebird’s gone for a while and I really do feel the impact of him not being around. Now, you can text him. But, he’s at home and him not being there, his presence is missed.”
This comes after Michael Hayes had taken a temporary leave of absence from his WWE duties last year. Hayes played a huge role in creating The Bloodline storyline, working closely with Paul Heyman on Roman Reigns’ segments and that’s why the angle became so successful.
It’s clear that even top stars like CM Punk understand how important Michael Hayes is behind the scenes. Everyone is hoping he gets better quickly and can return to traveling with WWE soon and get back to doing what he loves the most, so we give Hayes our best wishes and pray he comes back soon.
