The pro wrestling world is full of stories, and Michael Elgin wants to set a big one straight.
Michael Elgin issued a statement denying that he was accused of stealing protein powder during his 2022 arrest in Japan. He said the incident began when he brought his own MAG Grip pulldown bar to a gym before staff hours and broke up a fight between two people. He went on to claim that police questioned him about the fight and the equipment, but he was only detained until his lawyer provided proof of purchase.
He said the story was false and came from someone with a personal issue against him. Elgin added that he does not have a criminal record and that the decision to remove him from the tournament was based on negative publicity rather than any offense.
“Once again, I’ll tell you exactly what happened. I was never accused of stealing protein, that was a lie. What happened I went to Anytime Fitness before staff hours. I took my MAG Grip pulldown bar. While I was there a fight started, and I broke up the fight as a guy was about to hit another guy with the gym’s pulldown bar. I waited until the aggressor left and the other person’s cab arrived. I then left with my MAG Grip bar. This was early on my tour. Then nearing the end police showed up at my apartment and asked about the fight. I explained and they took me to the station. I answered their questions, then they asked about the pull-down bar. The. Due to laws in Japan, I was held for 6 days until my lawyer could access my phone and provide the receipt for the pull-down bar. I was then let go, having the police apologize to me. Noah told me not to post online and booked me for the N1 tournament. Once it got online that I had stolen protein they canceled my flight. Said that it was bad press. Someone jealous of my accomplishments while they didn’t matter during our time there told a website I stole protein. I do not have a criminal record you dumbf*ck. Anything else?”
Michael Elgin has spoken out several times about the allegations against him. He also said that the #SpeakingOut accusations about him excluded important details. This was proceeded with another post where he called out Dave Meltzer and Mike Johnson from PW Insider for not covering his whole story.
Michael Elgin has lost a lot of work since the several allegations came out against him over the past several years. He is still trying his best to stay active, and obviously he’s not finished clearing his name.
“Question. Why is it that if you defend yourself, prove the defamatory statements are untrue do people try to attack you (on here, lol) If you stood for anything you claim, then if a woman lies about something so serious, and something that as far as I’m concerned should be met with beatings if you’re a man and assault a woman. You would want those women held accountable and removed from this space because as long as they lie, real victims will be less likely to be heard. The fact is, you just want power. You want control. You’re so miserable outside of your “online space” that you come here to feel important. I worked my entire life to make something of wrestling. And I did. You sit at home and bitch and complain to feel important. No one will comment on this, why? Because they ignore facts, so that they can feel special. Lol.”
Michael Elgin’s last match took place on November 9, 2024, at CIW Thrill Of The Night from Pittsfield High School in Pittsfield, Michigan. In the main event, Elgin successfully defended the CIW Heavyweight Championship against Ashton Adonis. It has now been nearly one full year since that match occurred.
