Mercedes Moné’s chaotic “12 Belts Celebration” on AEW Dynamite might have ended with a cake to the face and a table crash courtesy of Kris Statlander—but behind the scenes, her championship run could be entering its final chapter.
During the October 23, 2025 episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez discussed where AEW plans to take Moné’s “belt collector” storyline as she heads toward her showdown with Statlander at AEW Full Gear on November 22 in Newark, New Jersey.
According to Meltzer, AEW has mapped out an endgame for Moné’s reign of gold—and it likely involves her starting to drop those belts after the pay-per-view. Bryan Alvarez asked the question on everyone’s mind, “What’s the endgame here?” Dave Meltzer responded with insight into AEW’s internal thinking:
“She set the record, so I don’t know what… the endgame is building up all these belts for the title shot at the big belt, which is the next pay-per-view. Then after that, it’s like she could go and lose the eight belts to somebody else or the ten belts, and then that person can go to all those promotions and lose.”
Alvarez wasn’t impressed with that plan and made his opinion clear.
“Who came up with that idea? That is a horrible way to end this story. Not a good way.”
Meltzer continued, explaining that while it might sound weak on paper, AEW’s approach could still benefit the smaller promotions involved in Moné’s belt-collecting arc.
“Well, that may very well be what they do. You know, I don’t anticipate her going and losing to ten different independent wrestlers. I just don’t see that happening. In fact, it kind of should, but…”
Alvarez cut in with a firm response, “It doesn’t kind of should—it absolutely should. Meltzer agreed that while it might be ideal for Moné to return each belt in person, the logistics make it unlikely.
“Yeah. Well, it would be the best for… It would certainly be the best for those companies for her to go back there and lose. Yes. Yes, it would be. I can’t imagine she doesn’t lose at least the CMLL belt. I mean, some of the belts I think that she would probably lose—I would think that she probably would lose the RevPro belt again. Some of the other ones, I’m not as sure about. You know? I don’t know. Is she really going to go back to Denmark? She might. I don’t know. She’ll likely drop those belts after Full Gear, but not in 10 different places.”
Moné’s “12 Belts” persona has become one of the defining stories of her AEW run, but it seems the clock is ticking on how long she’ll keep her collection intact. With Full Gear approaching and Statlander targeting her momentum, fans could be watching the beginning of the end of her global gold chase.
