AEW WrestleDream just got a major twist, and it directly impacts Mercedes Moné. What was originally announced as an open challenge for her TBS Championship is now officially a title vs title match, with her opponent required to put their championship on the line too.
Tony Khan made the change clear on Saturday afternoon, taking to social media to explain the stakes for Moné’s bout at the pay-per-view in St. Louis.
“After last night’s Arena México win, longest reigning TBS Champ @MercedesVarnado puts up the TBS Title vs any champion + their belt! 10 Belts Moné aims to set the record for most belts held simultaneously TONIGHT!”
This change means Moné isn’t just defending her championship — she’s now in a position to potentially add to her collection. Fresh off her win at Arena Mexico against Persephone to retain the CMLL Women’s World Championship, she could now make history by matching or surpassing Ultimo Dragon’s legendary run of holding 10 titles at once.
The updated WrestleDream card reflects the adjustment, listing Moné’s match as a “title vs title” clash, with the mystery opponent yet to be revealed. Whoever steps up to face her will not only challenge for the TBS Championship but also risk losing their own belt in the process.
As a reminder, Ringside News will have live play-by-play coverage of the event over in our AEW WrestleDream section.
