Mercedes Mone is stepping back into the NJPW spotlight, and she’s bringing her gold with her. NJPW officially announced on Tuesday that Mone will defend her Strong Women’s Championship at Resurgence on May 9th from the Toyota Arena in Ontario, California.

Her opponent? That’ll be decided at Windy City Riot on April 11th, when Mina Shirakawa takes on AZM in a number one contender’s match. Whoever comes out on top will get a shot at Mone in a match that’s already grabbing attention.

This marks Mone’s first NJPW appearance since Wrestle Dynasty at the Tokyo Dome on January 5th, where she retained the Strong Women’s Championship and also walked out with the RevPro Undisputed British Women’s Championship after defeating Mina Shirakawa.

Mone originally won the NJPW Strong Women’s Title by beating Stephanie Vaquer at the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view last June, and she’s held onto it ever since.

The Resurgence event will stream live on NJPW World, and it promises another major spotlight moment for Mone, who continues to make moves on both sides of the Pacific.
