Mercedes Moné might have walked out of AEW Revolution 2025 still holding the TBS Championship, but it came at a painful price. The CEO revealed in her Moné Mag newsletter that she suffered a throat injury during her brutal showdown with Momo Watanabe.

Moné said the damage happened after taking a nasty kick right to the jaw and throat, which immediately left her unable to speak or swallow properly. “Nothing prepared me for that kick that landed right on my jaw and throat,” she wrote. “I instantly grabbed my face, praying nothing was broken. Panic set in for a moment—I could barely speak or swallow—but I knew we were nearing the finish line.”

Despite the pain, Mercedes powered through and finished the match—because that’s what champions do. The next morning? It didn’t get much easier. “I woke up the day after the AEW Revolution, and my throat was sore af, and my voice was so raspy I could probably audition for a horror movie,” she joked.

The AEW Revolution bout was a certified war, with Moné and Watanabe going all in. While Watanabe brought the fire, it was Moné who ultimately walked away with the win—and now we know just how much damage she endured to do it.

She didn’t slow down, either. Mercedes was back in the ring again this past week, pushing through the pain and reminding the entire wrestling world why she’s considered one of the best to ever do it.
