Mercedes Mone’s arrival in AEW has definitely changed the promotion’s landscape when it comes to the women’s division. With that said, it appears that Mone contemplated leaving pro wrestling for good after her WWE departure.

Mercedes Mone notably walked out of WWE in May 2022, alongside Naomi. Her departure was reportedly attributed to creative frustrations and concerns about her position within the women’s division.

While speaking to Katee Sackhoff, Mercedes Mone revealed that she considered leaving wrestling for good after her WWE exit. She admitted that the experience deeply hurt her and pushed her into a dark place. Wrestling had once been a source of light in her life, saving her during difficult times as a child, but after leaving WWE, it brought her overwhelming stress and sadness.

Mone went through a period of healing and reflection, questioning whether she should walk away completely. However, she reminded herself of her love for wrestling and the goals she had since she was 10 years old.

Despite feeling that some people wanted her to disappear, she refused to give up on herself or her dream. She still had passion and drive, and ultimately, she felt that her faith and inner strength pushed her to keep going.

“I did, I did. Because of how hurt I was by it and how much it drove me into a place of, um, darkness. I couldn’t believe that something that brought me so much light in my life—something that saved me so many times when I was a kid—could also bring me so much darkness. I was just like, ‘I don’t want to feel like this. I don’t want to have so much stress that I’m legitimately killing myself because of it, or drowning in sadness from the negative thoughts constantly running through my head.’

So, I went through a lot of healing—a lot of healing. And I told myself, ‘No, this is still what I freaking love. I love wrestling. I still have the same goal I had when I was 10 years old, and no one is going to take that away from me.’

I felt like maybe people wanted to see me gone forever, like they wanted me to disappear. But I told myself, ‘I can’t. I can’t give that to people. I can’t give up on myself, and I can’t give up on my dream.’ I still have so much passion, so much drive, and my light—my God—told me, ‘You’ve got to keep going.'”

Now that she has overcome this challenge, Mercedes Mone is fully dedicated to AEW. With her passion renewed, fans are excited to see how she continues to elevate the women’s division as the TBS Champion.
