Mercedes Moné is opening up about a career-defining moment that still lives in her heart—her WrestleMania 37 main event against Bianca Belair.
Writing in the latest issue of MonéMag, the former Sasha Banks took fans back to that emotional night in 2021, reflecting on why it wasn’t just a match, but a cultural shift for women in the industry.
“That night at WrestleMania will always live in my heart. Wrestling Bianca wasn’t just about a match; it was about making history.”
Moné revealed they didn’t find out they would be headlining Night One of WrestleMania 37 until just over a day before the show, which made the moment even more surreal.
“We didn’t find out we were main eventing until about a day and a half before. I had been praying, manifesting, and hoping—and when they finally told us, I was overwhelmed.”
Even though Bianca Belair took the win that night, Moné said the impact went far beyond the outcome. She described the match’s closing moments as something truly powerful—especially for young Black girls watching at home.
“Lying on the floor at the end, I watched Bianca’s husband run out to celebrate with her. Even though I was selling from the pain of the match, I couldn’t stop smiling. I thought to myself, ‘If I had seen this as a little girl, I can’t even imagine the kind of superstar I would’ve become.’”
And even in defeat, Moné called it a fairytale moment she’ll never forget.
“Even though I lost, it felt like a Cinderella moment. That night, WWE didn’t just change my life—they changed the entire game for women’s wrestling.”
Mercedes Moné is now making waves in AEW, but it’s clear that her legacy includes a massive WWE milestone that paved the way for the next generation. That WrestleMania main event wasn’t just a headline—it was history.
