Mercedes Moné is loving life in All Elite Wrestling — and she’s not afraid to say it feels like a totally different world compared to her time in WWE.
Speaking on The Marking Out podcast, the self-proclaimed CEO opened up about the unique atmosphere backstage in AEW and why it motivates her to perform at her best.
Moné admitted she keeps her own locker room to avoid unnecessary drama, but when she’s around the AEW women’s roster, she feels a real sense of unity and shared purpose. She described the energy as coming from AEW still being viewed as the underdog in the wrestling world, something that fuels everyone to push harder.
“Well, first of all, I have my own locker room. I like being away from it — I don’t want to be part of drama or anything — but when I am around the girls, it just feels like such a community of wanting to make this place grow. There’s a hunger because I feel like we still feel so underground and we want to make it up here. So all these women have so much drive and passion and I can feel it — like they fire me up. I want to be the best because they want to be the best.”
Moné went on to compare that energy to her WWE experience, without directly putting the company down. She said there’s something about AEW’s drive to prove itself that creates a completely different vibe across the board.
“And same with the guys too, just the energy with the guys feels so different. I don’t want to say like, ‘Oh, [WWE] is bad’ or people have egos, but it just feels like we’re all trying to fight for something. We’re trying to fight to make this the best. And I love people who have passion and hunger.”
For Moné, AEW’s “still fighting for something” mentality has been the perfect fit, especially after leaving WWE in search of a renewed passion for wrestling. She sees the company’s underdog status as a constant motivator — and it’s clear she thrives in that kind of environment.
