Matt Riddle isn’t afraid of big names—and he just claimed he’s better in the ring than Brock Lesnar.

Speaking with Shane Douglas, the former WWE Superstar got real about how he stacks up against other fighters-turned-wrestlers. And when it came to Brock Lesnar, Riddle didn’t mince words. He believes Lesnar may be a beast in combat—but he lacks the versatility that makes Riddle the more complete performer.

“I am a rarity, and I would say this is what makes me rare compared to most of those other people. I’d even compare myself to Ken Shamrock and Brock Lesnar. They’re very good, but most of the time, nine times out of ten, they are so dominant because they’re fighters.”

The King of Bros said that unlike many MMA stars who come to pro wrestling and rely on sheer force, he brings storytelling, vulnerability, and depth to his matches—traits he believes fans actually care about.

“I feel like my character — even though I was ranked top 10 in the world and I’m legit — one of my real strengths is my ability to sell. Very much so. Even though I can destroy people, do all the moves, deadlift everybody… the ability to sell and be vulnerable is where my value is.”

He also made it clear he never wanted to copy Lesnar’s style or reputation. Instead, he wanted to be someone new—someone who could take wild bumps and still make it feel real.

I don’t think anybody was able to do it quite like me. I think a lot of people might watch some of the others wrestle and feel like it’s kind of one-dimensional. And for me, I was such a fan of pro wrestling growing up that I didn’t just want to be a little Brock Lesnar. I wanted to be me.

Riddle says that’s why his wrestling style always went beyond just power moves and toughness. He grew up a fan and wanted to perform like the guys he watched—taking major bumps, big spots, and still telling a story.

“I wanted to be able to do it all — to take Canadian Destroyers… sell it over the top, and not just no-sell everything. I wanted to be able to translate that into my work.”

He closed it out by making his argument plain: he’s not just another MMA guy who crossed over. He’s the one who did it better—in his eyes, better than most.

“I think that’s what separates me from all the other mixed martial artists who transitioned like I did.”

This isn’t the first time he’s been vocal about Lesnar. The two had a real-life backstage encounter at the 2020 Royal Rumble, where Lesnar grabbed Riddle and told him to “keep my f***ing mouth shut” after Riddle publicly called him out for a match.

Love him or hate him, Matt Riddle’s confident he’s got the skills that set him apart from stars like Brock Lesnar—and he’s not backing down from saying it.
