Matt and Nick Jackson announced their partnership with Reebok earlier this year, introducing a new shoe line called “The Superkicks.” The shoe features the Young Bucks’ logo on the back heel and a vibrant design on the insole. However, this collaboration ended up nixing Matt Jackson’s plan to retire superkicks.

While speaking to Social Suplex Podcast Network, Matt Jackson revealed that he wanted to stop doing superkicks to focus more on their EVP personas and he told Nick Jackson he didn’t want to do the move anymore.

“I even wanted to lean more into the EVP stuff. Like, I told Nick, ‘I don’t want to do a superkick ever again,’ and he fought me on that—and he won the fight. I was like, ‘When we come back, I never want to do one ever again,’ and he’s just like, ‘That’s our thing. Why would we stop doing it?'”

Unsurprisingly, Nick Jackson fought against Matt Jackson, saying it was their signature move and part of who they are. Nick also admitted the timing wasn’t right since they had “The Superkick” Reebok shoes to promote and sell, so there was no way they could retire superkicks.

“I was like, ‘Here’s the problem with that, Matt, you idiot—we have a shoe that’s called the Superkick coming out that we have to sell, and Reebok will be angry.'”

Matt Jackson admitted that he tends to go all-in on ideas, even thinking about changing their whole style. In the end, Nick Jackson convinced him to keep doing superkicks to stay true to their brand and fans.

“Yeah, I’m just an extremist, though. It’s like I either want to go one way or the other completely. Like, ‘No, we’re not Matt and Nick anymore. We’re Matthew and Nicholas.’ In our heads, we’re never doing superkicks again. And he’s just like, ‘Shut up.'”

The internal reaction to The Young Bucks’ shoes were overwhelmingly positive as well. Regardless, fans are glad that The Young Bucks kept on performing superkicks as it’s simply hard to imagine them without the signature move.
