Malakai Black’s time in AEW appears to be over, and now, the conversation has shifted to what’s next for the former House of Black leader. While neither AEW nor Black have made an official statement, the writing seems to be on the wall after both Cope (Edge) and Will Ospreay referenced his absence on AEW television.
Earlier reports claimed that he’s not going back to AEW. He’s finished up with the company and was effectively written off with Will Ospreay’s promo. He’d indicated to friends he wanted to head back to WWE in recent years.
Now, wrestling veteran Matt Hardy has weighed in on Black’s next move, and he wouldn’t be surprised if a WWE comeback is in the cards. Speaking on The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, Hardy acknowledged Malakai’s unique presence and hinted that his AEW run never quite clicked the way it should have.
“Extremely talented individual. Very unique, he’s a niche performer which really stands out. That would not shock me at all. That would not surprise me at all. I feel like probably because of Malakai Black and him being the leader, I feel like the House Of Black has had a very strange relationship all through AEW while they’ve worked there. It’s been very off and on, right? Him showing back up in WWE, that’s certainly not out of the realm of possibility.”
Malakai Black first made his WWE debut as Aleister Black in 2017, quickly becoming a fan favorite before his abrupt release in 2021. With WWE welcoming back several former stars under Triple H’s leadership, speculation is already running wild about whether Black will be the next name to make a shocking return.
Matt Hardy sees it as a strong possibility—but do you? Would Malakai Black be a better fit in WWE? Please share your thoughts and feedback in the comment section below.
