The Hardy Boyz made a big statement at WWE NXT Roadblock, taking down NXT Tag Team Champions Fraxiom in a non-title match. But despite eyeing NXT gold, it looks like their run on the black and gold brand is over—for now.
Speaking on The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, Matt Hardy confirmed that their time in NXT has wrapped up for the time being, even though both teams are open to a rematch.
“Yes. I do think we would want to run it back. As of right now, our little run with NXT is wrapped,” Hardy said. “We do have some stuff on our schedule to do with WWE a little later on down the road. Nothing specifically with NXT yet, but…”
When Jon Alba pushed for more details on their WWE future, Hardy played it coy, saying, “Just stuff, I’m going to leave it at that right now. We have stuff lined up with WWE.”
While their NXT stint may be over, Hardy didn’t shy away from the idea of coming back for one big reason—the NXT Tag Team Championships.
“But I would love to run it back, especially when we gave our initial thoughts following the match,” Hardy continued. “The first thing post-match is like, hey, these guys got a shot at the TNA Tag Team Titles and we were able to retain our titles, we prevailed. But does this now earn us a shot at the NXT Tag Team Championships? Because that is a tag team title that The Hardys do not have on their resume, and The Hardys would like to have that on their resume. I think there’s maybe a selling point there, too.”
The Hardys’ unexpected run in NXT began on February 25, and they had their biggest moment yet on March 11, when they took on Fraxiom in a hard-fought match that showcased both teams. Jeff Hardy praised the speed of Nathan Frazer and Axiom, even comparing them to rocket boosters.
“Their human hearts are more like rocket-boosters. That’s the fastest team I’ve ever been in the ring with,” Jeff said.
Matt Hardy echoed his excitement, teasing a future title opportunity. “Unfortunately, the NXT Titles weren’t on the line. Maybe next time, the NXT titles will be on the line because that is something The Hardys do not have on their list of gold.”
For now, it looks like NXT Stand & Deliver won’t feature The Hardys, but with their WWE future still in play, the door isn’t closed.
