Matt Cardona engaged in a solid feud with Chris Jericho for the ROH World Title last year and reports emerged that Cardona was offered a contract with AEW. However, Cardona has now set the record straight on such reports once and for all.

While speaking on The Ariel Helwani Show, Matt Cardona confirmed that despite recent appearances on ROH television, he was never offered a contract by AEW. He shared that about a month ago, he received a call to wrestle Chris Jericho at Hammerstein Ballroom, which he was excited about. They had several weeks of TV leading up to it, received great reactions from the crowd, and had a successful match, with his shirt being the best-seller of the week.

However, despite the attention and hype around his appearances, he didn’t receive a contract offer. Even though Dave Meltzer reported that he had received an offer, Cardona clarified that the report was incorrect.

“Month or so ago, I got called, ‘Hey, you wanna wrestle Chris Jericho at Hammerstein Ballroom?’ Hell yeah I do! Ring of Honor, another guy I grew up idolizing. We do the weeks of TV, getting great reactions in-house, social media, best-selling shirt of the week, killer match at Hammerstein Ballroom. I got nothing. Even Dave Meltzer reported I got a contract. Sorry Dave, you’re wrong, I didn’t get one.”

On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer claimed that Matt Cardona had received a contract offer, stating, “I know he [Matt Cardona] was offered a [AEW] contract. I don’t know if he’s signed or anything.” Therefore, Cardona had to make it clear this report was no correct at all.

Regardless, we will have to wait and see what the future holds for Matt Cardona as it’s clear fans loved him during his stint in ROH, but his not receiving a contract has made his future in the company uncertain. Therefore, we’ll have to wait and see what the future holds for The Indy God.
