Alberto Del Rio shocked fans when he beat up El Hijo del Vikingo’s father on Venga la Alegría, a popular morning show on TV Azteca. It blurred the lines between kayfabe and reality and now the mastermind behind the altercation has been revealed.
While speaking on the Keepin’ It 100 podcast, Konnan was asked whose idea it was to have Alberto Del Rio attack El Hijo del Vikingo’s father and Konnan revealed that it was his idea, as he simply said, “Mine.”
Konnan noted that people didn’t think the segment was real, so when the fight broke out, actual security tried to break it up. One of the guards got pushed and didn’t want to get involved.
Konnan explained that two of the security guards were actually working for AAA, and he had specifically asked Alberto Del Rio to rough them up. When he saw Del Rio that Saturday, he reminded him that he didn’t follow through the first time. Del Rio told him he’d take care of it that night, and he ended up going out and beating up one of the guards.
“Everybody else didn’t think it was a shoot. So, the real security went to break it up, and he pushed one of the guys and was like, ‘Yeah, I don’t want any part of this.’ And the funniest part of this—just a little backstory for people who want to connect the dots—two of the security guards there work for AAA, and I specifically called the ADR, you know, to throw hands on them. Right? Right.
So when I saw him Saturday, I go, ‘Bro, I asked you to put hands on these guys and you didn’t.’ He goes, ‘I’ll do it tonight.’ So I had him go out and he beat the s*** out of one of them.”
Alberto Del Rio brutally attacked El Hijo del Vikingo’s father by kicking him in the stomach, ripping his shirt off, punching him and more. Of course, it was all to build towards Del Rio and Vikingo’s match on May 31st, where Vikingo beat Alberto Del Rio to become the AAA Mega Champion. Regardless, we’ll have to see what’s next for Del Rio as it’s clear WWE won’t be in his future anytime soon.
