Mark Nash made his WWE debut on the March 28 episode of SmackDown and since then, he has been doing well as the blue brand’s announcer. He’s also had the pleasure of introducing John Cena and now he’s talked about his experience working with Cena.
While speaking on the You Know I’m Right podcast, Mark Nash talked about how amazing it was to work with John Cena and how special the experience has been. He said Cena deserves all the praise he gets, and he’s just happy to be a small part of it.
One of his favorite moments is when he starts talking and Cena stands in front of him, holding up the championship belt. That image is something Mark said he’ll remember forever.
Nash compared it to a big moment in his own life, when he held up the Stanley Cup after winning it two seasons ago. He has a picture of that in his office and said giving his dad a ring with their last name on it meant a lot. To him, sharing the ring with Cena is just as meaningful.
“He deserves it, right? And I’m just glad to play a small part. You know, I think the greatest thing is that the minute I open my mouth, he stands right in front of me and holds that belt over his head. It’s just something that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
There’s a picture in my office of me holding the Stanley Cup over my head two seasons ago when we won the holy grail of trophies. And to be on the ice holding the Stanley Cup over my head, Game Five, is something that I will have for the rest of my life. The fact that I have a ring that has my father’s last name on it that I gave to him is something that I will cherish for the rest of my life.
These moments with John Cena in the ring are on the same level. To have the opportunity to share the ring with the legend that he is, the professional that he is—there’s no words, right? Like you even said it yourself, like how do you even explain that, you know?”
Nash said it’s hard to even explain how cool it is. Only a few months into the job, he was already in the ring with John Cena, with fans throwing beer bottles, and Cena told him his announcement was bad and to read it again. Mark did it confidently, saying the whole moment, especially the line about “never seen 17,” felt unbelievable. Nash admits he still can’t believe it happened.
“To be two months into the gig, three months into the gig, and I’m in the ring and fans are throwing beer bottles at us and he said, ‘Your announcement sucks. Read it again.’ And you read it again with all of these lines and the never seen 17. Like what? Come on.”
Being able to share the ring with someone like John Cena so early on in his career has clearly helped Mark Nash in a big way. Therefore, we’ll have to wait and see how he will continue to show the world just how good he is as SmackDown’s announcer.
