Mark Mero is opening up about one of the most shocking chapters of his life, admitting that before wrestling fame and national television appearances, he was involved in drug trafficking — a revelation he shared during his interview with Chris Van Vliet.

While discussing the process of writing his autobiography, Mero explained that telling the full truth about his past wasn’t easy. He said one of the hardest decisions he faced was whether to include details about his criminal past, knowing that many people who knew him as a wrestler or motivational speaker would never expect that part of his story.

“Yes. The the the drug dealing was was another tough one, you know. Um Um, you know, I'm working with with the Colombians out of Miami bringing cocaine to New York, you It was like this people would never know that about me, you know, and school still let me in, you know. No, I'm teasing those so many years ago. But um…”

After making the admission, the conversation continued with discussion about the legal and personal risks of sharing those experiences publicly. Mero explained that he made sure enough time had passed before putting those stories into his book, and he also had to reach out to people who were involved in those moments to make sure it was safe to talk about them.

“Yeah. And you know, and there were certain people I had to get permission to share some of these stories because they were with me. And you know, one of my buddies uh you know, he had he did seven years in prison that ran with me and never ratted on nobody.”

The revelation adds to Mero’s life story, showing just how dramatic his journey has been from criminal activity to becoming a professional wrestler and later a motivational speaker who shares lessons about personal responsibility and second chances. Fans who followed his career in WWE and WCW may remember his flashy persona and in-ring success, but this admission paints a much deeper picture of the struggles and choices that shaped his life before wrestling fame.
